BE AWARE! The manager of this motel is a thief . She stole $ 142 .63 from my bank account. I reserve a room and after paying for it and getting home she made another transaction without out any consent to me. I Had been home 3days when she made another withdrawal. I WILL BE CONTACTING BBB.
I have stayed at this motel multiple times, but will not stay in the future, nor will I recommend it to friends. Every year for the past 9 years, we plan a trip to either Portsmouth or South Core for a fishing trip. Since we live in Raleigh and typically like to get on the early Ferry to the island, we like to stay close. For the past couple of years, we have stayed at the Sand Dollar Motel due to its proximity to the Ferry. This year, however, we booked the Sand Dollar about 12 days out, and unfortunately we found out yesterday (2 days prior to arrival), that the National Park Service closed the island due to an approaching hurricane. I immediately called the Sand Dollar to see if we could cancel the room. The answer was NO, "we can't control the weather". Fair enough, I can understand that. As an option, I explained to the manager, that we come every year and since we can't stay this time, can we just have a credit to apply toward our trip next year. Again....the answer was NO. The only option I was given was to change to a different date this year, which I did. Without even mentioning it, I received a receipt showing that they charged me another $20 for the room I had already paid for, and certainly can't use in the middle of the winter. I really hope my $100 was worth the continued business that the hotel will lose when I take our group of 22 guys and move to a different location moving forward.
We stayed here last year and had a decent experience. This year however a completely different situation. They refused to work with any of us in our group in regards to canceling with a tropical storm warning being issued. We were even willing to move our reservations to another time and they would not do so without charging $20 fee(1/3 of room rate) to do so. You would think being located in an area prone to storms they would be a bit more flexible when it comes to these situations. We will not return.
Okay, this is not a place with lots of extras. It is clean and tidy, appliances work and beds are comfortable. No daily housekeeping services, but clean towels are available on request at the office, just a few steps away from your room. For the price, it is excellent. Quiet neighborhood, just a five minute walk to Henderson Blvd public beach access. The manager is friendly and courteous. Excellent.
My family and I had gotten a room there this Saturday October 21 2017. Room number 3 has bed bugs on the beds. I wish I could post the pictures on here but I will post them on the motel facebook page. I wouldn't want my worst enemy sleeping or staying at this messed up motel. This motel needs to be SHUT DOWN IMMEDIATELY.
